The drama surrounding Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, continues to unfold, with the beauty queen once again igniting a firestorm of controversy in South Africa.
Chidimma, who was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria in August, has declared that she will not be returning to South Africa. This announcement comes after her controversial win, which sparked outrage among South Africans who were baffled by her claim of being a "proudly Nigerian woman" despite having previously competed in South African beauty pageants.
In a video shared online, Chidimma stated that she has always felt Nigerian, even from birth.
"I always felt Nigerian from the moment that I was born. It is not just because of the opportunity that was presented to me. I think people who know me have seen that I have always embodied that spirit of being a pure, proudly Nigerian woman," she said.

This statement has further fuelled the debate surrounding her nationality, with many South Africans questioning her previous participation in South African pageants.
Social media erupted with reactions, with many users expressing their frustration and bewilderment.
"Pure, proud Nigerian woman, but why enter South African pageants?" questioned @CRangataJ.
"South Africans, can we please stop posting about this person? It’s enough!" exclaimed @Arcane_shroom.
"So why did she cause this unnecessary drama entering Miss SA knowing exactly she’s a Nigerian," questioned @Fit_Mandisa.
@Ayoksy said, "She is telling you this because Nigeria accepted her. Why can't you all move on? She is with us now?"
"Why is she not thanking us for making sure she went back home and won her rightful crown, instead of confusing people that she’s a South African when she feels like it. Now she is a pure Nigerians, does she really understand that," added @cawanamsebele.
The controversy surrounding Chidimma's nationality has even reached the halls of South African government. ActionSA, a political party, has written a letter to the Department of Home Affairs questioning how Chidimma's mother was able to travel freely to Nigeria. The party has called for the revocation of both Chidimma and her mother's IDs and passports.
This latest development adds another layer to the complex saga of Chidimma Adetshina. While she has found success in Nigeria, her actions have left many in South Africa feeling betrayed and questioning her true identity.
Regardless of the answer, one thing is clear: Chidimma's journey has sparked a heated debate about nationality, identity, and the complexities of belonging in a globalised world.
