Former Rhythm City actress Itumeleng Bokaba has ignited a social media firestorm after posting pictures of herself in her underwear, sparking a debate about body image, self-love, and the ever-present scrutiny of public figures. The juicy pictures have since literally broken the internet!
The Joburg-based actress, known for her role as Mampho in the popular soapie, took to her Instagram on Tuesday, 9 July, to share the images, which she says were intended to showcase her progress on her weight loss journey and celebrate her current glamorous state.
"I've even posted some of these photos on my Facebook before becoming famous," Itumeleng told Daily Sun, dismissing the surprise at the reaction. "I'm not ashamed of my body," she added, her voice firm and confident.
The post, however, triggered a wave of mixed reactions, with some fans questioning whether her account had been compromised. Itumeleng, however, remained unfazed, explaining that she's always been open about her body and her journey.
"I've consistently shared my journey regarding weight, body, and mental health," she said. "So the feedback wasn't unexpected."
The 30-year-old actress has long been open about her struggles with body image and the impact of public opinion. "As a child, I struggled with people's opinions, which were often harmful," she shared. "Over the years, I’ve worked hard to create a boundary where my opinion of myself outweighs others."
Itumeleng's journey towards self-acceptance is a testament to her resilience and determination. "I’ve been working on my body for years, both mentally and physically," she explained. "I returned to the gym in October 2022."
While she acknowledges the positive feedback she's received, Itumeleng emphasizes that her primary aim is self-expression and creating memories for her followers. "I'm at a point in my life where anything is possible," she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "There are so many directions I could take, and even though I don’t know what’s next, I’m trying to take a step back from controlling everything. I’m allowing God and the universe to guide me to my next destination."
The actress's confidence and openness about her journey have resonated with many, inspiring others to embrace their own bodies and prioritize self-love.
"If you want to change your body because of what someone else said or to please others, it’s not worth it," she advises. "People will always have something to say."
Itumeleng's message is a powerful reminder that true beauty comes from within. "First, learn to love yourself and recognise your amazing qualities," she urges. "Don’t sell yourself short or wait for others to permit you to feel good about yourself."
Beyond her journey of self-discovery, Itumeleng is also excited about her upcoming music projects. "I have an Afro-beat single coming out soon," she revealed. "It’s a love song, reflecting my current lover-girl phase, which is exciting."
Itumeleng's story is a powerful reminder that embracing one's individuality, regardless of societal pressures, is a journey worth taking. Her courage to be vulnerable and authentic is a beacon of inspiration for many, proving that self-love is the ultimate form of empowerment.
