Radio personality Anele Mdoda found herself at the centre of a social media storm this week after she weighed in on a political issue, prompting a barrage of criticism from her followers.
The star, known for her outspoken personality and often humorous takes on current events, appears to have misjudged the mood of her audience when she commented on former President Jacob Zuma’s upcoming press conference.
On Thursday, August 22, 2024, Zuma was set to address the nation in Johannesburg, sparking a flurry of anticipation and speculation.
Mdoda, however, took to Twitter to express her opinion on the matter, writing: "He is having a press conference. He is not addressing the nation. Only the president or ruling government can address the nation. Kanimeni orrrrrrr ndi wrong?"

Her tweet quickly attracted a wave of criticism, with many users pointing out that Zuma, as a former president and influential figure within the MK Party, could be considered to be addressing the nation. Some users even accused Mdoda of being out of touch with the political realities of the country.
“Ngizwe Mchunu also addresses the nation from time to time,” wrote @mashesha, referring to the leader of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP). “DA did the same thing but you’ll didn’t ask questions,” added @AmieMbhele, highlighting the perceived hypocrisy of Mdoda’s stance.
“He is addressing the nation through a press conference,” countered @KingDon_za, while @LifeOfASigma added: “I believe anyone who has the nation’s attention can address the nation.”
One user, @WarLoveStories, summed up the sentiment of many when they commented: “He has shown us that he can do whatever he wants. At this point, we have to just tune in.”
