The financial troubles of Nzuzo Njilo, former husband of socialite and TV personality Faith Nketsi, appear to be deepening.
Njilo, who was once a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, is now facing a fraud case in the Port Shepstone Magistrates Court in KwaZulu-Natal, with a potential jail sentence looming.
The alleged victim, who viewed a truck in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, made two payments but never received the vehicle. The charge sheet alleges that Njilo and Ntshangase, posing as truck salespeople, provided fraudulent information on the sales agreement.
"The information we have is that the case could proceed because it seems unlikely that he would be able to come up with the money he needs for the settlement out of court," a police officer, who asked not to be identified, told City Press.
The case was initially scheduled for August 19th but was postponed to September 2nd. This delay was reportedly due to an attempt to reach an out-of-court settlement, with Njilo agreeing to repay the R1.5 million to the alleged victim.
However, police sources indicate that Njilo failed to meet this deadline, suggesting that the settlement has fallen through.
This is not the first time Njilo has faced allegations of fraud. In June 2023, fraud charges against him were dropped by the Randburg Magistrates' Court in Johannesburg.
These charges stemmed from allegations that Njilo defrauded prominent businesspeople Blaine Evans and James Stephens of over R900 000.
Evans, in a case opened at the Douglasdale Police Station, claimed that his company, Lund Industries, had entered into a deal to purchase copper concentrate from Njilo's company, NN Chrome Mining. Njilo promised to return the money deposited into his business account but allegedly sent a fake proof of payment, sending only R9 instead of the full amount.
While Njilo has not responded to requests for comment, the current fraud case is a serious blow to his reputation and could have significant legal repercussions.
