Johannesburg – The South African music scene is still reeling from the tragic accident that claimed the lives of musicians Malome Vector and Lizwi Wokuqala, leaving a void in the hearts of fans and fellow artists.

Puleng Phoofolo, the Afro-soul singer who survived the crash, is still recovering in hospital, battling both physical and emotional wounds.

The accident, which occurred on the N8 in Kroonstad, Free State, involved a truck and the vehicle carrying Phoofolo, Malome Vector, Lizwi Wokuqala, and music director Da Mos. The group was travelling to Lesotho when the fatal collision happened.

In July, Phoofolo took to Facebook to update her fans, assuring them that she had been discharged from hospital and was recovering at home. She confirmed the tragic loss of her colleagues, writing: "I do confirm that indeed I was in the car that tragically collided with a truck and resulted in the untimely death of my industry brothers. Bakang Moleli, aka Malome Vector, Lizwi Wokuqala, and director Da Mos."

However, in a recent interview with Sunday World, Phoofolo revealed that while she is physically recovering, the emotional toll of the accident remains heavy.

"I am still hospitalised. Honestly, I am not okay, but physically, I am still taking it as it comes daily, and I am getting proper treatment as well as psychological help," she shared.

The singer expressed deep sorrow over the loss of her colleagues, whom she considered brothers. She also revealed the added heartbreak of not being able to attend their funerals. "Emotionally, I am not okay due to the loss of the two artists I regarded as my brothers. I am heartbroken because I could not bury the artists," she said.

The accident sparked confusion in the media, with some reports erroneously claiming that Phoofolo had also perished in the crash. Others falsely reported that musician Ntate Stunna was among the victims. Phoofolo's statement aimed to clarify the misinformation and provide a clear picture of those involved in the tragic event.

Malome Vector, known for his unique blend of traditional and contemporary sounds, was a rising star in the Afro-soul scene. Lizwi Wokuqala, a talented vocalist, was also a rising star, gaining recognition for his powerful voice and soulful melodies.

The loss of these talented musicians is a significant blow to the South African music industry, leaving a void that will be difficult to fill.
