Johannesburg – Controversial artist manager and content creator, Nota Baloyi, finds himself embroiled in a serious legal battle after a prominent actress filed rape charges against him at the Douglasdale police station.

While Baloyi maintains the sexual encounter was consensual, the actress, a familiar face on South African television screens, has chosen to remain silent on the matter, pleading with the media to respect her privacy.

Baloyi, known for his outspoken nature, has openly confirmed both the police investigation and his prior relationship with the actress. He revealed that he was first contacted by the police on Thursday, prompting him to seek legal counsel before providing a statement. In a pre-emptive move, Baloyi has also filed a protection order against the actress, citing alleged threats made against him.

The alleged rape is said to have occurred on September 4th. However, the roots of the conflict appear to stretch back to 2017, when the actress, then an aspiring musician, contacted Baloyi seeking connections within the music industry. She claimed to have been featured on a track released under Baloyi’s record label, alleging she was never properly credited for her contribution.

This initial professional interaction appears to have evolved into a flirtatious exchange, as evidenced by WhatsApp messages seen by Sunday World. The messages reveal a complex dynamic, with the actress expressing a desire for clarity and cautioning Baloyi against misinterpreting her intentions.

“You were on my mind the entire time since I got back… I don’t know what to make of you. I think you have to be more clear about what you want from me before we continue," she wrote.

She further emphasised that she wasn't interested in casual encounters, adding, "My kitty cat and my heart are connected."

Baloyi, in his responses, denied perceiving her as interested in casual hook-ups, suggesting a mutual desire to get to know each other better away from public scrutiny. The messages also include playful banter about love potions and a growing intimacy between the two. The actress, a former child star, expressed a need for a slower pace, emphasising that taking their relationship to the bedroom would signal a deeper commitment from Baloyi.

Baloyi insists the sexual encounter that followed was entirely consensual. He claims their relationship had progressed to the point where the actress had expressed a desire to go public and meet his family. He further revealed that the encounter took place at his home in the presence of his 23-year-old nephew.

Despite Baloyi’s assertions, the actress has vehemently denied opening a case against him. She has appealed to Sunday World not to publish her name or details of her acting career, stating, “I don’t want to talk about that as I am not ready… I am currently focused on my music.”

Gauteng police spokesperson, Captain Mavela Masondo, has confirmed the existence of the rape case, stating that it has been referred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.

No arrests have been made at this stage. The case remains under investigation, with the conflicting accounts of Baloyi and the actress highlighting the complexities and sensitivities surrounding such allegations. As the legal process unfolds, the truth behind the events of September 4th remains to be determined.
