Controversial music executive Nhlamulo “Nota” Baloyi turned himself in at the Randburg police station on Friday morning, facing a rape charge laid by actress and singer Itumeleng Bokaba. The arrest follows a case opened by Bokaba at the Douglasdale police station, alleging rape by Baloyi. Baloyi, known for his outspoken nature, has publicly acknowledged the allegations and his previous relationship with Bokaba.
In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter) earlier that day, Baloyi described the situation as "officially the worst day of my life so far," and requested prayers from his followers. “Handing myself in at Randburg police station and hoping for the best. Please keep me in your prayers; this is officially the worst day of my life so far,” he wrote.
This initial professional interaction appears to have developed into a flirtatious exchange, as evidenced by WhatsApp messages obtained by Sunday World. These messages reveal a complex relationship, with Bokaba expressing a need for clarity and cautioning Baloyi against misinterpreting her intentions.
In one message, she wrote: “You were on my mind the entire time since I got back… I don’t know what to make of you. I think you have to be more clear about what you want from me before we continue.”
She further emphasised her desire for a serious relationship, stating: “If I gave you the impression that I can do casual hook-ups, I lied. My kitty cat and my heart are connected. So, I’m giving you a chance to run now. If you don’t take it, don’t blame me.”
Baloyi, in his responses, denied perceiving her as interested in casual encounters, suggesting a mutual desire to get to know each other better. The messages also include playful banter and indicate a growing intimacy between the two. Bokaba, a former child star, expressed the need for a slower pace, emphasising that a sexual relationship would indicate a deeper commitment from Baloyi.
Baloyi maintains the sexual encounter was consensual, stating that their relationship had progressed to the point where Bokaba had expressed a desire to go public and meet his family. He claims the encounter took place at his home in the presence of his 23-year-old nephew.
However, Bokaba vehemently denies Baloyi's account of events. She has appealed to Sunday World not to publish her name or details of her acting career, stating: “I don’t want to talk about that as I am not ready… I am currently focused on my music.” She has also chosen to remain silent on the matter publicly, requesting the media respect her privacy.
Adding another layer of complexity to the situation, Baloyi has filed a protection order against Bokaba, citing alleged threats made against him. He revealed that he was first contacted by the police on Thursday, prompting him to seek legal counsel before giving a statement.
