Former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns star Teko Modise and his wife, Koketso Chipane, once celebrated as a power couple, are now facing significant challenges in their three-year marriage.
Reports indicate that the couple, who tied the knot in a traditional wedding in 2021, have gone their separate ways, with Teko recently moving out of their shared home in northern Johannesburg.
Despite their previous displays of affection on social media, where they frequently posted pictures of their lunch dates, vacations, and life together, the facade of their relationship appears to have crumbled.
A source close to the couple revealed that both Teko and Koketso have deleted each other's pictures from their social media accounts. Following their separation, Koketso has also dropped the Modise surname from her profiles, opting for a different handle altogether.
The couple reportedly tried to salvage their relationship, but their efforts fell short due to various underlying issues.
"They make a cute couple, but sadly, the relationship has run its course. Maybe in the future, but right now I think they both need to be apart from each other," the source explained.
Despite their split, they are managing to co-parent their two-year-old child effectively.
Currently, Koketso is enjoying a holiday in southern Italy with friends, living life to the fullest, as noted by the source: "She continues being fabulous and living it up." Attempts to reach Koketso for comment were unsuccessful, and Teko did not respond to calls.
The couple's journey began in 2017 when they started dating. Teko paid lobola in 2018, leading to the first leg of their traditional wedding. In 2021, they celebrated their union in an intimate ceremony in Meadowlands, Soweto, attended by fewer than 30 close friends and family members.
“He hired bouncers to ensure that protocol was observed. If you didn’t have [an invitation], you were not allowed in,” a source revealed, explaining that the event proceeded despite family politics and the absence of certain relatives due to lockdown restrictions.
This is not the first time Modise has faced marital challenges. In 2010, he married Felicia Mokoena, but the couple divorced in 2013. He later paid lobola for model Lizelle Tabane, yet that relationship also ended, with the pair parting ways in 2014.
