Controversial South African social media influencer and DJ Cyan Boujee, real name Honour Zuma, has bravely shared a harrowing account of a brutal assault allegedly inflicted upon her by her ex-boyfriend.
In a raw and emotional YouTube video, Cyan detailed the attack, revealing graphic images of her injuries – a bruised and swollen face, and other visible signs of the violence she endured.
Cyan described the incident, which occurred at her home after a night out, as a terrifying ordeal. She explained that she had fallen asleep after returning from a trip to Tanzania when her ex-boyfriend, whose name she has not publicly disclosed, allegedly arrived at her residence and launched the attack.
“I was sleeping, he was sleepless, and he came to my house. I didn't want to wake up because I had a long weekend. I had just come back from Tanzania and I was exhausted. He waited for everyone to leave the house and immediately when I fell asleep he came in and just started fighting me. He just started beating me up,” she recounted in her video.
The assault escalated, with Cyan alleging that her ex-boyfriend’s violence went beyond punches. “He hit me so much it felt like punching me was not enough. Then he just started biting me all over, even on my face,” she said.
“I was screaming for help, I couldn't breathe. At some point my eyes just went blank and I had to fight for myself.”
She described the terrifying experience of being unable to escape his aggression, her pleas for help seemingly ignored by some neighbours who merely watched and filmed the incident from their balconies.
Cyan explained that she eventually managed to flee the house, but her ex-boyfriend pursued her, continuing the assault until security guards and the police intervened. She revealed that her ex-boyfriend was subsequently arrested. However, the ordeal did not end there. Cyan stated that her ex-boyfriend's parents attempted to bribe her to drop the charges, an attempt she firmly rejected.
“His parents came to see me and they just wanted to pay me. I just want him to leave me alone. I feel unsafe. I can't even go outside. I've locked all my doors because I'm scared he might enter my house at any time and hurt me,” she explained.
This alleged incident is not Cyan’s first experience with physical violence. She previously reported being assaulted by two women at a chisa nyama and has been involved in other public altercations, including a physical confrontation with influencer Paballo Noko and threats of violence against her former friend and podcaster, Seemah. However, this latest incident highlights a deeply concerning pattern of violence in her life.
Cyan revealed that there were warning signs in the relationship. She stated that her ex-boyfriend had threatened her with violence if he discovered she was involved with another man, a threat he allegedly made just two days before the assault.
She also stated that he repeatedly called DJ Maphorisa’s name during the attack. The incident left Cyan deeply traumatised, leading her to question her future relationships.
“I'm sad that every time I meet a guy they bring so much trauma and I can't fight back because they are men. Then I meet women who disrespect me on the same level. That's why I want to fight them, because I know I can't fight men,” she emotionally explained in her video. “I'm traumatised. I think I'll never be able to date again. I'm just so broken, but I will be OK.”
Her words paint a picture of a woman struggling to cope with the emotional and physical aftermath of a brutal attack, and her courageous decision to share her story is a testament to her strength and resilience.
