Popular South African gospel musician Dumi Mkokstad has vehemently denied rumours of his death following a purported fatal car accident. The 32-year-old Pietermaritzburg-based artist, whose real name is Mdumiseni Nzimande, expressed his astonishment and frustration at the false reports circulating online.
“I just heard that I’m dead, and my phone was flooded with calls from people checking on me,” Mkokstad stated, highlighting the widespread nature of the misinformation. The outpouring of concern from fans and colleagues alike underscores the impact of these false reports and the anxiety they cause.
This is not the first time the “Mbize” hitmaker has been the subject of such unfounded death rumours. Mkokstad revealed that he has previously been targeted by similar hoaxes, explaining the methods used to spread the false information. “Several times, people have falsely claimed I’m dead. They manipulate videos with sad music and captions like Rest in Peace Dumi Mkokstad,” he explained.
The musician expressed his bewilderment and frustration at the actions of those perpetuating these lies. “Why do people spread such lies? I ask those doing this to stop,” he questioned, appealing for an end to the malicious rumours. The emotional toll of repeatedly facing such false reports is clearly evident in his statement.
Mkokstad used the opportunity to reassure his fans and the public that he is alive and well. He emphatically stated that he has not been involved in any accident and is currently enjoying good health. “I’m healthy, with no ailments,” he declared, putting an end to any speculation about his wellbeing.
