The simmering feud between popular South African sangomas, Gogo Maweni and Gogo Skhotheni, has exploded onto social media, attracting the attention of Afro-pop star and newly initiated sangoma, Kelly Khumalo.

The escalating conflict, marked by mutual accusations and public pronouncements, has now reached a disturbing new level, with Gogo Maweni allegedly performing a ritual involving a small coffin.

The spat initially focused on business rivalry and personal attacks. Gogo Skhotheni accused Gogo Maweni of wearing counterfeit Gucci and not owning her cars, while Gogo Maweni countered by questioning Gogo Skhotheni's ownership of the recently opened Cavo club.

However, the conflict took a far more sinister turn when Gogo Maweni allegedly implicated Gogo Skhotheni in the death of her son. This accusation, coupled with other public disagreements, has fuelled a bitter social media war, dividing fans and generating considerable public interest.

The latest development, a video shared by entertainment commentator Musa Khawula, depicts a small casket surrounded by candles, a teddy bear, and traditional sangoma tools.

The video, allegedly filmed by Gogo Maweni herself, shows a note attached to the casket reading: "Even if your mother defecates and urinates herself, you'll never come back. Your aunt, Maweni."

This deeply unsettling display suggests a ritual intended to harm Gogo Skhotheni, raising serious concerns about the potential consequences of this escalating feud.

Amidst this escalating drama, Kelly Khumalo, who recently completed her own sangoma initiation, has intervened, offering advice and a call for respect within the sangoma community.

In a video, Khumalo addressed the situation, stating: "Respect secret of Isigodlo. Respect the secrets of ancestors. Respect the secrets of Amakhosi. There are things that people shouldn't know that we do in our sacred spaces," emphasising the importance of maintaining the sanctity of traditional practices.

Khumalo's intervention highlights a growing concern amongst some within the sangoma community about the public nature of the dispute. She cautioned against the damaging effects of such public displays on the dignity of the healing profession.

"My sisters, this thing isn't cool. It takes down your dignity of the gift of healing bestowed upon you. At some point, you will see people in compromising situations, something that needs to be hidden at all costs," Khumalo stated, urging both sangomas to reconsider their actions.

Khumalo's intervention is significant, not only because of her celebrity status but also because of her recent initiation into the sangoma tradition, lending weight to her call for respect and decorum.

The conflict between Gogo Maweni and Gogo Skhotheni has taken a disturbing turn, moving beyond mere business rivalry into a realm of alleged spiritual warfare. The video of the coffin ritual raises serious questions about the ethical boundaries of traditional practices and the potential for harm.
