Nzuzo Njilo, the club host, television personality, and ex-husband of Faith Nketsi, has failed to appear in court and provide the necessary medical documentation to explain his absence. This adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing fraud case against him and his co-accused, Kwanda Ntshangase.
Njilo and Ntshangase were due in the Port Shepstone Magistrates' Court on 12 November, but Njilo claimed illness, sending a text message to the investigating officer hours before the scheduled appearance. However, he has yet to provide the promised medical certificate, despite the end-of-November deadline.
A police official close to the case commented, "The certificate must also be shared with the investigating officer because it needs to form part of the records. The only logical reason is that he wants to submit it to the court on the day of the appearance." This failure to provide the necessary documentation casts a shadow over Njilo's claim of illness and raises questions about his commitment to the legal process.
This is not Njilo's only brush with the law. In June 2023, fraud charges against him were dropped by the Randburg Magistrates' Court. These charges related to the alleged defrauding of businessmen Blaine Evans and James Stephens of over R900 000. Evans, speaking on behalf of Lund Industries, detailed how they entered a deal to purchase copper concentrate from Njilo's company, NN Chrome Mining. He explained that Njilo promised to return their deposit but instead provided a fraudulent proof of payment, revealing that only R9 was actually transferred.
According to Nketsi's associates, the marriage dissolved due to Njilo's alleged dishonesty and financial mismanagement. Nketsi alleged that Njilo defrauded her of the proceeds from the sale of her vehicle, the make and model of which she has not disclosed publicly. She described him as dishonest and incapable of managing his own finances.
"She said Njilo defrauded her of the proceeds of the sale of her vehicle," said one associate, who requested anonymity for fear of victimisation. This associate also stated that Nketsi felt betrayed and ended the marriage in January 2024, taking their daughter, Sky, to live in her Sandton home, while Njilo moved to a rented apartment in Midrand.
Nketsi, who reportedly earned at least R50 000 per month back then, detailed her expenses at the time, including R22 000 for her bond, R3 000 for groceries, and R3 500 for utilities and rates. She also stated that Njilo's reported monthly income was R200 000, with expenses including R45 000 for rent, R3 000 for electricity, R2 000 for groceries, and R25 000 for petrol. These financial details highlighted the disparities in their financial situations and further underscored the tensions that led to the breakdown of their marriage.
The ongoing legal battles paint a complex picture of Njilo's current situation. His failure to appear in court and provide the requested medical certificate only adds to the growing concerns surrounding his trustworthiness and commitment to the legal process. As the January 21 court date approaches, all eyes will be on Njilo and Ntshangase, and the direction the case will take. Njilo has been contacted for comment, but had not responded at the time of publication.
