Tshwane – Puseletso Mate (35), the renowned traditional healer widely known as Malepona, has dismissed rumours circulating about her training a successor, labelling them as "outright lies." The healer, known for her unique practice of consulting clients while naked, has clarified her position on the matter and addressed other aspects of her spiritual life.

"I'm not training anyone to take over," Malepona stated emphatically. "At the moment, I'm not training anyone, and amadlozi will show me my successor if there's one."

Malepona, who is based in Winterveld, Tshwane, also cautioned the public against believing information shared about her on social media, as she is not active on those platforms.

The traditional healer is well-known for her practice of consulting clients while unclothed, a practice she says is in accordance with the orders of amadlozi. She revealed that even in her own home, she walks unclothed, and is unapologetic about it.

Malepona also shared details about her unique healing practices, which include the use of a python. "This snake you see has existed for decades. I inherited it from my grandmother, who had inherited it from her mother," she explained.

She considers herself married to amadlozi, but revealed that her husband is supportive of her calling.

Malepona noted that the python sometimes disappears for over three months before returning. "I'm very comfortable with my snake and at peace. I even travel with it to different places. I believe when it's gone, it visits my ancestors to recharge and gather more powers," she said.

Her clients come from diverse backgrounds, including prominent individuals, celebrities, and "slay queens." Malepona said that her home is open to anyone who needs help and that she constantly seeks guidance from her ancestors. She also made it clear that "I don't give people muthi for ukuthwala."

Despite her deep connection to amadlozi, Malepona said that she believes in both God and amadlozi, and prays alongside practising her traditions.

Addressing societal issues, Malepona cautioned that people shouldn't blame God or amadlozi for their misfortunes, as greed and criminal behaviour are often the root causes. "We are our own worst enemies. People must stop imitating others. We’ve turned our ancestral beliefs into a joke," she said.

Malepona's nephew, Reabetswe Mate (24), praised her straightforward nature and dedication to her craft. "I'm not scared of the python. I even carry it myself," he added.

Malepona's story offers a glimpse into the world of traditional healing and the complexities of balancing ancestral beliefs with modern life. Her unwavering commitment to her calling and her willingness to challenge societal norms have made her a unique and respected figure in her community.
