The daughter of legendary radio icon Eddie Zondi, Keletso Lula Modiba, better known as Lula Odiba, has revealed that she was fired from her TV job at Channel O via SMS.

The 26-year-old presenter, who was one of the three hosts on Channel O's Groove, expressed her disappointment at the manner in which she was let go.

Lula Odiba, who currently hosts the midday show on 5 FM, shared her experience with her listeners, stating that she was informed of her termination via SMS by Channel O bosses. She explained that the reason given for her dismissal was a lack of budget to cover her salary.

"I was told that there is not enough budget to pay my salary any longer at the channel," Lula Odiba revealed.

The former Wits University VOW FM DJ, who has been making waves in the radio industry, expressed her disappointment at the lack of personal communication from her former employers.

"A call would have been much better," she said, highlighting the impersonal nature of receiving such news via text message.

Lula Odiba, who took over the broadcasting mantle from her late father, has been passionate about her career since her high school days. In 2014, while still in Grade 11, she shadowed legendary DJ Fresh at 5 FM for two days as part of a Life Orientation assignment. This experience sparked her professional radio journey, which led her to YFM before her current position at 5 FM.

When contacted for comment, Channel O publicist Portia Hlongwane did not confirm or deny that Lula Odiba was fired through SMS. Hlongwane simply stated that the show is currently on a break, and that Channel O would keep fans updated should there be any news.

Lula Odiba's experience highlights the changing nature of communication in the workplace, where text messages are increasingly being used for even the most sensitive conversations. While some may see this as a convenient and efficient way to convey information, others, like Lula Odiba, find it impersonal and lacking in empathy.

The incident has sparked debate about the appropriateness of using SMS for such sensitive matters, particularly when it comes to informing someone about the loss of their job.

While the use of technology in the workplace is evolving, it is important to remember that human interaction and empathy remain crucial, especially when dealing with difficult situations.

Despite this setback, Lula Odiba's star continues to shine brightly at 5 FM, where she is quickly becoming a household name.
