JOHANNESBURG – Former Miss South Africa contestant Chidimma Adetshina, better known as "Chichi," has made a dramatic announcement: she's leaving South Africa, the country she called home for 23 years, and relocating to Nigeria.

The decision comes after a tumultuous period for the beauty queen, who was forced to withdraw from the Miss SA pageant following an investigation by the Department of Home Affairs.

The investigation revealed prima facie evidence suggesting that her mother may have committed identity fraud during her birth, allegedly stealing the identity of a Tshwane woman. Three Home Affairs officials have been implicated in the case, which remains ongoing.

Speaking to Cool FM in Nigeria, Adetshina opened up about the emotional toll the Miss SA controversy took on her.

"It has been a long journey. It has been so hard I won’t lie. There were times I would literally cry myself to sleep, like why me? I wanted it to end," she said, revealing the immense pressure she faced.

There were also reports that the beauty queen had attempted to commit suicide after being cyber bullied by millions of South Africans.

Despite the negativity, Adetshina expressed gratitude for the support she received from her family and fans.

"I'm really glad I have been given the platform and the opportunity to at least try and reach that goal," she shared, highlighting her resilience in the face of adversity.

Now, with a newfound sense of purpose, Adetshina has set her sights on the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, where she hopes to use her platform to unite the continent and inspire others.

"My goal is obviously to win the crown of Miss Universe Nigeria and I do have an impact that I want to share with everybody. As a woman who has obviously faced adversity, I want to use my story to bring people together," she said.

Adetshina's decision to relocate to Nigeria, the land of her father, is a clear indication that she's seeking a fresh start.

"I'm excited. I'm in my father's land, and I want to get to experience more about it. It's been 20 years since I've been here. I just want to get to know more about the culture and where I come from," she said.

However, despite the challenges she faced in South Africa, Adetshina still holds a special place in her heart for the country.

"South Africa is amazing. The beach is my favourite place at… There are just beautiful places to explore in Cape Town. Well I am from Cape Town so Cape Town is my go to place. Joburg is also home for me. South Africa is the place to be," she said.

Adetshina's journey has been a rollercoaster of emotions, but her determination and resilience are evident.

While she may be leaving South Africa behind, her experiences in the Miss SA pageant have undoubtedly shaped her into a stronger and more determined woman.
