The family of the late DJ Sumbody, real name Oupa Sefoka, is still seeking closure for their son, who was murdered on the morning of his birthday bash in a hail of bullets in Johannesburg along with a friend.

The musician was killed in cold blood and no arrests have been made almost two years after his murder.

Despite the ongoing pain and unanswered questions, the Sefoka family is determined to keep DJ Sumbody’s legacy alive. They plan to celebrate Heritage Month by hosting a charity event in memory of the late “Lepara La Pitori” hitmaker.

The Ayepyep Lifestyle Cape Town, where DJ Sumbody had a stake, has partnered with The DJ Sumbody Foundation, which is run by his family, for the annual Ayepyep Cape Town Charity Gold Day taking place on 20 September at the prestigious Clovelly Golf Club. The family aims to continue the DJ's legacy by giving back over R100 000 to the underprivileged community of Eyabantu Educare, which is home to over 200 children.

“The DJ Sumbody Foundation is a legacy project founded by the Sefoka family and partners to be a vehicle of change to the fans of my brother's work,” said Koketso Sefoka, the late star's brother and chairman of the foundation.

“We aim to be an agent of change when it comes to issues such as entrepreneurship, education, and the arts. The Ayepyep Golf Day is just one of the initiatives that we plan on using as tools to help empower the younger generation.”

The Ayepyep Charity Golf Day will be a day of celebration and remembrance, bringing together celebrity guests who adored the DJ while he was still alive. While the family is still battling to come to terms with his passing, they are working towards healing.

“It’s been tough, we still need answers,” Koketso added, highlighting the ongoing pain and frustration of the family as they continue to seek justice for their loved one.

The event is a testament to the enduring impact DJ Sumbody had on the South African music scene and beyond. His music transcended borders and touched the lives of countless people, and his legacy will continue to inspire and uplift generations to come.

The Ayepyep Charity Golf Day is a powerful reminder that even in the face of tragedy, hope and resilience can prevail. The Sefoka family is not only honouring DJ Sumbody’s memory but also making a tangible difference in the lives of underprivileged children, ensuring that his spirit of giving back continues to live on.

The event is expected to attract a large crowd, with many fans and friends of DJ Sumbody eager to pay tribute to the late star and support his family’s efforts to make a positive impact on the community. The day will be filled with golf, entertainment, and camaraderie, providing a platform for remembrance and celebration.
