The Crown Gospel Music Awards, a prestigious event celebrating the best in South African gospel music, will continue under the leadership of Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, the late Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule's husband.
Bishop Nkambule has been appointed as the awards' new executive producer, ensuring the legacy of his late wife lives on.
"We, as the board of the Crown Gospel Music Awards, are committed to celebrating the high standards that Zanele championed during her time at the helm of the Crown Gospel Music Awards. We acknowledge the profound legacy she has left behind, and we pledge to build upon it and take it further to the next level," Bishop Nkambule said during a media briefing.
The announcement came following Zanele's passing in August after a battle with lung cancer. Many wondered what would become of the awards, which she founded and nurtured for years. But Bishop Nkambule has assured everyone that the show will go on.
The 17th edition of the Crown Gospel Music Awards will be held at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Gauteng, on Sunday, 24 November. The nomination process is still open and will close on Thursday, 10 October 2024.
Bishop Nkambule has pledged to uphold the high standards set by his late wife, ensuring the awards remain a celebration of excellence in South African gospel music.
"Zanele will always be the lifetime president of the Crown Gospel Music Awards, and there will be no other while the awards team remains the same. This year's award ceremony will be a celebration of her legacy," he said.
Zanele, a beloved figure in the South African entertainment industry, was known for her infectious energy, unwavering passion for gospel music, and her dedication to nurturing talent.
