Actor Oros Mampofu has bid a fond farewell to the popular Mzansi Magic telenovela, "Gqeberha: The Empire", as the show approaches its final episodes.
Oros, who joined the show in its second season, has played the role of Ntando Mxenge, taking over from Phila Madlingozi. While the end of a chapter is bittersweet, Oros reflects on his time on the show with a heart full of gratitude and pride.
"It's always an honour. We have so much respect for the Eastern Cape story, especially for those of us who grew up there. Being Xhosa, it's a privilege to be part of a narrative that resonates with so many people in the country," Oros shared in an interview with Daily Sun.
He acknowledges the emotional rollercoaster of wrapping up a production, saying, "At this point, it's a mix of pride and gratitude. It's always difficult to say goodbye, even to a production, but that's part of our job. Our role is to tell the story, represent it authentically, and then let it serve its purpose for the audience it touches."
Oros's portrayal of Ntando has resonated deeply with viewers, particularly those who have ties to the Eastern Cape.
"What's unique about this show is that it's rooted in the Xhosa culture and speaks to people from the Eastern Cape. It brings back memories for those who might have moved to Joburg or elsewhere for work but still hold their hometown close to their hearts," he explained.
The show's cultural significance has made it a favourite among many, and its impact on viewers has been profound. "Gqeberha: The Empire" has not only entertained but has also served as a platform for showcasing the rich culture and heritage of the Eastern Cape, bringing a sense of pride and belonging to many viewers.
While Oros is excited about future projects, he will miss the close bonds he has formed with his castmates and crew. "Each production has its own cast and team, and you build real relationships with these people. That's something I'll miss," he concluded.
Oros's departure from "Gqeberha: The Empire" marks the end of an era for the show. However, his contributions to the series, his dedication to his craft, and his commitment to authentically representing the Eastern Cape will leave a lasting impact on viewers.
