Famous reality TV star Shauwn “Mam’Mkhize” Mkhize is officially single following a protracted six-year divorce battle with her estranged husband, businessman Sbu Mpisane.
The Durban High Court ended their lengthy legal struggles on Monday, 18 November, finalising their divorce and allowing both parties to move on.
Mam’Mkhize, known for her reality show Kwa Mam’Mkhize on Mzansi Magic and Showmax, initially filed for divorce in October 2018. The couple, who had been together for 26 years, share a 23-year-old son, Andile Mpisane, who currently serves as the chairman and player for the Betway Premiership soccer team, Royal AMG FC.
Despite the finalisation of the divorce, Mam’Mkhize’s publicist, Nikiwe Nyembe, stated that she would not be commenting further on the matter. Mpisane, however, indicated that Mam’Mkhize was the author of the divorce and would be the one to provide more details about the proceedings. “According to the Divorce Act of 1979 in South Africa, the court prohibits the publication of information that comes to light during divorce proceedings,” he explained.
The dissolution of their marriage was not without its complications; Mpisane had sought a 50% settlement from the multimillion-rand estate they built together. Throughout the divorce proceedings, Mam’Mkhize reverted to her maiden name, Mkhize, even before the court issued the final decree.
In a twist of events, their former marital home saw a break-in in 2023, specifically on Mpisane's side. Three suspects allegedly entered the premises but fled upon being discovered by Mpisane.
While still married, the couple founded the Premier Soccer League (PSL) team Royal Eagles in 2014. However, following their separation, they divided the ownership of the team. Mpisane retained the Royal Eagles name, while Mam’Mkhize acquired Real King in 2019, renaming it Royal AM. She later secured rights to play in the PSL by purchasing Bloemfontein Celtic's licence in 2021.
Reflecting on their journey, Mpisane and Mam’Mkhize were married under a joint estate agreement in 1991. They later inherited the Zikhulise Group Holding from Mam’Mkhize’s mother, ANC veteran Florence Mkhize. Their business ventures amassed millions of rands through various tenders, including the construction of RDP houses in KwaZulu-Natal.
Their business empire included a variety of enterprises, such as MFJ Boutique, Inyanga Security, Ukhozi Civic, Zikhulise Assessment Centre, Zikhulise Auto Restore, Zikhulise Auto Recovery, Zikhulise Cleaning, and Zikhulise Exotics. While the couple's public lives have been marked by fame and fortune, their private lives have endured significant challenges.
