A chilling tale of alleged depravity has unfolded in the quiet village of Zaaiplaas in Limpopo province, leaving residents reeling in shock and disbelief. A 27-year-old man, the grandson of a respected local mamfundisi, is facing charges of raping a 101-year-old woman, adding a new layer of horror to an already disturbing case.
The gogo, the alleged victim's relative, has spoken out about her grandson's disturbing behaviour, revealing a history of unsettling actions that began years ago. "It used to worry me a lot. I used to ask myself how a normal person could sleep with chickens," she said, recounting how her grandson, a former church-goer, allegedly engaged in bestiality during his teenage years.
"My grandson grew up in church, and I can now believe that a pastor doesn't always bear a pastor," she said, adding that despite her prayers, his behaviour never changed.
The gogo described her grandson as a seemingly "cool child" around the house, helping with chores. However, she revealed a darker side to his personality, stating, "But once he smokes dagga or drinks, he becomes something else."
She added that her grandson's descent into darkness began in school, where he "used to mix with the wrong company, smoking and bunking classes, and he eventually dropped out of school."
The gogo's desperate plea for help underscores the gravity of the situation. "I appeal to the government to check his mind. I believe he needs psychological help because prayers are not working," she said.
The accused, who appeared in a makeshift court in Zaaiplaas on Thursday, 8 August, was scheduled to apply for bail but his Legal Aid lawyer was absent due to illness. The case has been postponed to 15 August to allow him to receive legal assistance.
The alleged victim, a 101-year-old woman, is now being supported by local authorities and community members. The community is grappling with the disturbing events, seeking answers and justice for the vulnerable victim.
