Zion Christian Church (ZCC) annual conference bounces back…. but vendors have been BANNED!

The Zion Christian Church (ZCC) is set to resume its annual New Year celebration conference next week, marking a return to normalcy after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the church has announced a significant change that will impact many – vendors will not be allowed to operate during the conference.

The first conference, scheduled for the 2024/25 Consecration of the New Year, will take place from Friday, 30 August to Sunday, 1 September, in Moria City outside Polokwane in the Limpopo.

This news will come as a blow to many vendors who have traditionally made a substantial income during the three-day event, selling everything from fruit and cooked meals to walking sticks and other goods.

Moatshe Ngoepe, spokesperson for the ZCC, confirmed the ban on vendors, stating that the church is prioritizing safety and security measures.

"The church, as a law-abiding entity, works closely with law enforcement agencies to deal with all safety and security-related matters. This is done for safety reasons, including the safety of pedestrians," Ngoepe said.

The ban on vendors will affect the R71 main road between Polokwane and Tzaneen, specifically the area in front of the church's headquarters in Moria City, from Matshelapata in Mentz to Mphogodiba. The church has requested full cooperation from the community during the conference.

While the ZCC maintains that the ban is solely for safety reasons, many vendors are disappointed by the decision. The conference has been a significant source of income for small businesses, and the ban will undoubtedly impact their livelihoods.

The church has not yet announced any alternative arrangements for vendors, leaving many uncertain about their future prospects.
