Highflats, KwaZulu-Natal: A wave of grief and shock has washed over the community of Highflats following the brutal execution-style killing of seven members of the Khambule family on Wednesday night. The victims, including three young children, were found dead in their home, shot at close range while watching television.
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed the horrific incident, detailing the grim scene: "The neighbours heard gunshots and when they went to investigate, they found that three women aged 35, 38 and 55 years old, and a 48-year-old man as well as three children aged 5, 11 and 12 years old, were shot and killed."
The bodies were discovered lying in a pool of blood in the living room, with spent cartridges scattered around.
The motive behind the massacre is believed to be a complex mix of family feuds and business-related tensions.
Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi revealed that one of the family members was recently arrested in connection with the shooting of two brothers in the construction industry. This incident, coupled with an ongoing conflict between the deceased and his own brother, has led investigators to suspect a targeted attack.
"Police shall never rest until the person or people behind the mass shooting are arrested," Mkhwanazi declared and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Provincial Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has condemned the attack, calling it "barbaric" and expressing his deep concern over the escalating violence in the province. He has instructed Commissioner Mkhwanazi to deploy every available resource to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure that these atrocities are dealt with swiftly and effectively.
"We remain dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in KwaZulu-Natal," Ntuli stated. He is expected to visit the area on Thursday morning to offer his personal support and assess the situation firsthand.
