The peaceful afternoon of Saturday, 14 September, was shattered by gunshots on Tokwana Street in Mfuleni, Cape Town. A 29-year-old man, walking along the street, was brutally gunned down in a targeted attack that left residents reeling in shock and fear.

Witnesses described a chilling scene of calculated violence. Two men, allegedly emerging from a vehicle, opened fire on the victim without hesitation or warning.

"They wanted him dead because when they went to him, they didn’t even talk or take anything from him. They just shot and killed him. Something like 12 shots that went off. They ran away on foot towards their getaway car," said a woman at a local spaza shop.

The brutal nature of the attack has left the community shaken. "They surely knew about his movements. It was not a random incident. It was a well-planned hit," said Nombuyiselo Blou, a resident of Mfuleni.

The victim's family was left devastated by the senseless act of violence. His mother, still grappling with the shock, was too distraught to speak to the media. "I was on my way to work when someone called me to the scene. We are still to speak as the family about the incident, so I cannot give more details," she said, adding that her son had left their home in Extension 6 earlier that day.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, confirmed the incident, stating that Mfuleni police had registered a murder case.

"Police attended to the crime scene where they found the victim with gunshot wounds to his face and body. He was declared dead on the scene by medical personnel. Motive for the attack is yet to be determined. The suspect(s) fled the scene and are yet to be arrested," said Twigg.

The nation is left with unanswered questions regarding the motive behind the murder. The victim's family is seeking answers and justice for their loved one.

Police are also urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact CrimeStop on 08600 10111.
