The uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party is celebrating its first anniversary with a series of events, culminating in a gala dinner offering a unique opportunity: a meal alongside former president Jacob Zuma. However, this exclusive experience comes with a hefty price tag.
The party, founded on 16 December 2023, is marking the occasion with a rally at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on 15 December, followed by a gala dinner at the Olive Convention Centre the following day.
MK party secretary-general, Floyd Shivambu, outlined the plans: “The festivities will take place on 15th and 16th December 2024, featuring a mass public celebration at Moses Mabhida Stadium and a prestigious Gala Dinner at the Olive Convention Centre," he announced.
Shivambu emphasised the dual purpose of these events: “These events aim to not only celebrate our achievements but also raise funds to support the future of our organisation. We invite individuals, organisations, and stakeholders from across all sectors to join us in these landmark celebrations,” he explained.
The most exclusive offering at the gala dinner is the "Platinum Spear Table." The various gala dinner packages are as follows:
- Platinum Spear Table: R2,000,000 (includes 30 suite tickets)
- Golden Spear Table: R1,500,000 (includes 25 suite tickets)
- Silver Spear Table: R1,000,000 (includes 20 suite tickets)
- Precision Spear Table: R500,000 (includes 10 suite tickets)
- Solid Spear Table: R200,000 (includes 5 suite tickets)
- Individual Access Ticket: R25,000 (includes 1 suite ticket)
For those wishing to attend the rally at Moses Mabhida Stadium, several hospitality packages are available. Individual access tickets are priced at R5 000 per person, including access to stadium hospitality suites, food and drinks, and official MK regalia. Organisations or larger groups can opt for a corporate hospitality suite, accommodating 30 people for R150 000, offering a premium viewing experience and enhanced amenities.
Shivambu clarified the connection between the rally and the gala dinner packages: “Purchases of gala dinner tables will receive complimentary suite tickets for the mass public celebration suites, ensuring a seamless and exclusive experience throughout the celebrations.” This integrated approach aims to maximise participation and fundraising efforts for the party.
