Daveyton – A disturbing video has sparked outrage in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, after it emerged showing a 61-year-old man allegedly sexually abusing a five-year-old girl. The incident has left the community reeling, with residents taking matters into their own hands before police arrived.

The video, which circulated widely, shows an older woman shouting in Sesotho: "You're raping a child." Disturbed by what they witnessed, residents confronted the man on Wednesday, February 5th, assaulting him and pouring paint on him before alerting the authorities.

According to a resident, the man attempted to smear the paint on his face upon the arrival of the police, seemingly in an effort to avoid identification. "It seems the police know him as they said: 'It's you again' and put him in the police van. The police said they once arrested him for another rape case," the resident claimed.

One of the women at the scene expressed the community's collective outrage: "We are angry. We even took out our breasts and pointed to our punanis, asking why he didn't ask from us instead of raping a five-year-old."

The five-year-old girl's father spoke to Daily Sun, expressing his devastation and determination to seek justice for his daughter. "We were in the house when we received an SMS from the neighbour telling us what happened. When I got outside, the man was assaulted by residents. He was poured with paint," he recounted.

"I'm so disturbed because he has ruined my child's future. If it wasn't for the neighbour shooting that video, we wouldn't have known who did it," the father added.

He explained that his daughter had been playing behind their house in the yard when the man allegedly grabbed her. "We understand he had visited my neighbour and saw my daughter. He sent her to buy him chewing gum and when she came back, he grabbed her and raped her behind the house," he said.

Fortunately, the incident was witnessed by another neighbour who captured it on video. "But he was seen by my other neighbour who took a video. I want justice for my daughter. We are tired of old men who target children," the father stated.

The father confirmed that his daughter and her mother have since been in contact with social workers.

Daveyton Station Commander, Colonel Khumbulani Ndaba, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, who is currently awaiting his court appearance. Regarding the allegations of previous rape charges against the man, Colonel Ndaba stated that he would investigate the matter with Benoni FCS to determine who investigated the case and its outcome.
