Reports suggest he was tampering with electricity illegally in the area when he was fatally electrocuted.

Community members disclosed that residents from the extensions 5 and 6 informal settlements frequently engage in illegal connections, creating tension among abahlali.

Affected residents, who requested anonymity, said illegal connections undermine those who pay for electricity.

A concerned resident observed that the community is divided.

Residents who have legally obtained electricity are frustrated by izinyoka.

"Some areas lack electricity, and illegal cables are visibly connected to other sections," said the resident.

"On Wednesday, 5 March, a man tragically lost his life while attempting an illegal connection."

Another resident protested the unfairness of the situation, highlighting that while they pay for electricity, others are stealing it.

"Some individuals are even paid to tamper with electricity cables, which leads to outages when the main power supply trips and affects entire sections."

Police spokeswoman Captain Neldah Sekgobela confirmed that an inquest docket has been opened at the Eden Park Police Station and is under investigation.
