Piketberg – A Piketberg family is grappling with unimaginable grief following a fatal stabbing incident on Sunday morning that claimed the life of a 24-year-old man. The tragic event, which occurred in Starking Street, involved two brothers and reportedly stemmed from a dispute over money.
According to a relative, the victim, Mornay Adams, was allegedly stabbed to death in his sleep by his brother, Heinrich Adams, at approximately 4.40am. The relative revealed that Mornay had recently received funds from both his previous employer and the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF).
"The victim, who was also a prophet, was working on a farm Lac du Soleil and got his bonus after the season had ended and also got his UIF," the family member explained. The relative further added that the brothers had once shared a close bond, making the incident all the more devastating.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that Piketberg detectives have opened a murder case for investigation following the stabbing incident.
"According to reports the victim and the suspect had an argument before he was stabbed," Sergeant Twigg stated.
Upon arriving at the crime scene, police officers discovered Mornay Adams with multiple stab wounds to his body. Medical personnel declared him deceased at the scene. The motive for the attack is currently under investigation by the police.
"We can confirm that a 32-year-old male was arrested on Sunday evening, in connection with the murder and appeared in the Piketberg Magistrates Court on 18 March on a charge of murder. The investigation into the matter continues," Sergeant Twigg added.
Heinrich Adams, 32, appeared in the Piketberg Magistrates Court on Monday, 18 March, to face a charge of murder.
The tragic incident has left the Piketberg community reeling. The family is now faced with the difficult task of mourning the loss of a son and brother, while also coming to terms with the fact that his life was taken by a member of his own family.
