Cape Town – A 23-year-old woman is expected to appear in the Parow Magistrates Court today, March 26, 2025, facing charges of murder and attempted murder following a fatal stabbing at a Parow nightclub earlier this month. The incident, which occurred on Voortrekker Road on March 11, claimed the life of 43-year-old Noxolo Mbane and left a security guard injured.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that Parow police have registered murder and attempted murder cases for investigation.
Twigg reports: “Parow police registered murder and attempted murder cases for investigation following a stabbing incident on 11 Marcch at about 11.45pm in Voortrekker Road, in which a 43-year-old female was fatally stabbed and an adult male stabbed and wounded. The 43-year-old victim was declared deceased at the hospital, while the adult male received medical treatment. We can confirm that a 23-year-old female was arrested and appeared in the Parow Magistrates Court where the case was remanded until 26 March 2025.”
According to Women for Change, a non-profit organisation advocating for the protection of the constitutional rights of women in South Africa, the incident unfolded after an argument between Noxolo Mbane and another woman escalated into a violent confrontation.
The organisation claims: “The woman then continued to stab Noxolo twice. A security guard who tried to intervene was also stabbed. The suspect was arrested and her next court appearance is on 26 March, please come and stand with the family as they fight for no bail."
The organisation has expressed its deep sorrow over the loss of Mbane, highlighting the ongoing crisis of gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide in South Africa. “We are heartbroken over the loss of such a beautiful soul. Another sister was murdered. How many more until we declare gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide a national disaster,” Women for Change stated.
Community Response and Safety Concerns
The Parow Community Police Forum (CPF) has acknowledged the tragic incident and extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured security guard a full and swift recovery.
The Parow Community Police Forum adds: “The Parow CPF acknowledges the tragic incident that took place on 11 March at a licensed establishment in Parow. We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and wish the injured individual a full and swift recovery."
The CPF has characterised the stabbing as an isolated incident, noting that there have been no prior complaints or reports of criminal activity at the establishment.
“This appears to be an isolated incident, with no prior complaints or reports of criminal activity at the establishment," the CPF stated.
The CPF also highlighted the ongoing efforts to ensure responsible business practices and address safety concerns in the area. "While Parow has several licensed venues, serious incidents of this nature remain rare. Law enforcement, in collaboration with external stakeholders, conducts regular compliance inspections, ensuring that necessary enforcement actions are taken when required."
The CPF further noted that proactive measures have recently resulted in the closure of a problematic establishment in partnership with the Liquor Board, while another venue has changed ownership and is not yet operational.
"Recently, proactive measures have resulted in the closure of a problematic establishment in partnership with the Liquor Board, while another venue has changed ownership and is not yet operational," the CPF stated. “At this time, no high-risk establishments have been identified in the area. We encourage responsible business practices and urge residents to report any safety concerns through the appropriate channels.”
As the case proceeds through the courts, the community is grappling with the shock and sadness of this violent incident. Women for Change is urging members of the public to attend the court hearing on March 26 to show support for the Mbane family and to advocate against bail for the accused.
