Cape Town – Residents of Eagle Park in Grassy Park were met with a chilling scene on Wednesday morning when the body of a young man was discovered in an open field on Paige Road. The gruesome find, made shortly after 8am, has left the local community reeling.
The victim, later identified as a 23-year-old man, was found lying on his stomach, covered in blood. It is alleged that the man's throat had been slit, and images circulating on crime groups showed his jersey and denim jeans soaked with blood. His face was covered in the images.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased had sustained a stab wound to the left side of his neck.
"Circumstances surrounding the death of a 23-year-old man whose body was found with a stab wound to the left side of the neck on 26 March at about 8.15am in Paige Road, Eagle Park, Grassy Park is under investigation," Van Wyk reported.
According to Van Wyk, SAPS members responded to the murder scene at the mentioned address and found the body of the male. The motive for the stabbing incident is yet to be determined, and the suspect(s) responsible for the crime remain at large. "The suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested," he added.
The discovery has sparked concern amongst residents, who are now living in fear as the perpetrator remains unidentified and the motive for the brutal killing remains unknown. The open field where the body was found is a popular thoroughfare for locals, making the incident all the more unsettling.
In a statement released late Friday, Captain Van Wyk appealed to the public for assistance in solving the case. "The motive for the stabbing incident is yet to be determined," he stated.
