Legendary jazz musician Caiphus Semenya has finally spoken up regarding reports that he was demanding 50% royalties for two songs that deceased rapper AKA had sampled without his permission.

The songs in question are said to be ‘Caiphus Song’ on the Touch My Blood project and Diary on the new Mass Country album.

“It’s not true,” he says. “As I said in a podcast, the matter was resolved. All my publishing is in place. There can never be a song that gets used without the correct channels being followed."

“I have always had a publisher that manages issues of sampling, royalties, and so forth,” Caiphus says there was never a legal battle between him and AKA.

“We need to respect the deceased. I come from a school of respecting the late and showing sympathy towards his family. If there was an issue, I was not going to bring it up at such a crucial time in the family’s life.”
