DJ Euphonik Opens Up About Trauma and Accusations in Candid Interview with DJ Fresh

In a candid interview with his friend and fellow disc jockey DJ Fresh, Euphonik (also known by his real name, Themba Nkosi) shared the emotional toll he experienced after being falsely labeled as a rapist by Ntsiki Mazwai, with whom he collaborated on the popular House remix hit, "Uwrongo."

Expressing his sympathy for Mazwai, Euphonik revealed that they initially met through DJ Spectacular while working on "Uwrongo," which achieved significant success. Euphonik expressed his disappointment and disbelief that Mazwai would accuse him of such a serious crime, attributing it to her personal dislike towards him.

The false rape allegations emerged in 2021 when a woman took to Twitter to accuse DJ Fresh (Thato Sikwane), Euphonik, and another individual of drugging and raping her in 2011. However, the allegations were subsequently dismissed by prosecutors due to a lack of merit, as stated in a joint statement released by DJ Fresh and Euphonik in February 2021.

In a separate legal battle, Euphonik won a defamation case against Mazwai, who was ordered by the Johannesburg High Court to pay damages and costs for making defamatory remarks about him on social media. DJ Fresh had also previously won a similar case against Mazwai.

During the interview, Euphonik expressed remorse for engaging in banter with Mazwai on Twitter and calling her "dirty" in the past. He emphasized that he did not anticipate her response of labeling him a rapist, which he found deeply hurtful. Euphonik forgave Mazwai but mentioned that his legal team would address the matter, noting that Mazwai had not yet made the required payment.

The conversation between DJ Fresh and Euphonik took a more intense turn when they discussed their disappointment with another former colleague and friend, Thando "Thabooty" Thabethe, who publicly supported the accuser. Fresh quoted Thabethe's tweet offering to pay for their legal fees, expressing his frustration at her seemingly unquestioning belief in the accusations. Euphonik responded by suggesting that Thabethe had never genuinely liked either of them, speculating that she was using the situation as an opportunity to display her true feelings.

In another interview on MacG's podcast, DJ Fresh mentioned that the issue had seemingly subsided until Mazwai republished the allegations, prompting him to involve his legal team once again.

Penny Lebyane, another individual, unexpectedly became involved in the case, adding a bizarre twist to the events. DJ Fresh described her refusal to back down as "arrogant" and criticized her approach to activism.

Recently, Mazwai tweeted about never being sued for a lie, clarifying that she had been sued for publishing a list that was already circulating online. She found it intriguing that she faced legal action for sharing what others had already said.
