Former Lawyer of Katlego Maboe Found Guilty of Code of Conduct Breach: Doubts Remain on Future Behavior
The Legal Practice Council (LPC) has delivered a verdict, finding Ellen Louis, the former lawyer of Katlego Maboe, guilty of breaching the code of conduct for lawyers. Louis had represented Maboe during a highly publicized fallout with his former partner, Monique Muller, who had accused him of infidelity and domestic abuse.
Monique Muller, however, remains skeptical that the LPC's verdict will deter Louis from engaging in similar behavior in the future. Muller and her family had filed a complaint against Louis, alleging that she had contacted them and made threats. Louis, however, denied the allegations of contacting Muller and her family when previously approached for comment by News24.
As the fallout between Maboe and Muller gained widespread attention in 2020, Louis played a significant role in representing Maboe's interests. The breach of the code of conduct by Louis has raised concerns about her ethical conduct as a lawyer.
While the LPC's finding holds Louis accountable for her actions, Muller remains unconvinced that it will serve as a deterrent for future misconduct.
