A two-month-old baby boy has been kidnapped over an alcohol debt.
The mother of the infant, Zinhle Mdletshe revealed that her child was kidnapped because her brother had taken alcohol from the two men, so they came to collect their money. He wasn't around and there was no money to pay them so they opted to kidnap the baby. "I was at home when two men asked to see my brother. When I told them he was not around, they took cellphones and demanded something of value and that is when they took my baby boy along with his baby blanket."
On the 11 March 2023, police reported that an infant had been missing after he was kidnapped by two men who ambushed his mother during a home invasion. The mother claims the family hasn't received any updates from the police and they are wondering how far they are with investigations.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the baby was still not found and the suspects were still at large and sought by the police.
"We are worried about the well-being of both mother and child. Two additional officers from the SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offence have been assigned to the case. With regard to tracking the stolen phones, there are technicalities that investigating officers would have to look into before they can start tracking." He said, the police would also look into the family’s claims about not being updated on the matter."
