A popular church leader in Johannesburg, Prophet Joseph Joel Ssali, was stabbed multiple times by his wife during a domestic violence incident at their home in Midrand.
Prophet Joseph Joel Ssali, of Prayer House Fellowship, was knifed several times by his wife Mandisa Ssali after accusing him of cheating on her.
The incident occurred on Friday.
Mandisa, 28 years old, was arrested and charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. She appeared in the Midrand Magistrate Court on Tuesday and was released on bail.
However, Prophet Joel Ssali was also arrested for malicious damage to property. His wife alleged that he had damaged their household furniture and her cellphone during the argument. He was detained over the weekend and released on bail.
According to a detective familiar with the case, the confrontation between the couple occurred when Prophet Ssali returned home, and his wife confronted him about his alleged infidelity. The argument escalated, and the prophet became angry, damaging household items including a television and a music system. He also smashed his wife's cellphone.
Mandisa went to the Midrand police station to report the incident and open a case of malicious damage to property against her husband. He was subsequently arrested, and she was later arrested based on his counter-charge of grievous bodily harm.
“The wife rushed to Midrand police station and opened a case of malicious damage to property against the bible-puncher.
He was arrested and detained at the Midrand police holding cells for the weekend and released on bail,” said the detective.
The couple has been released on bail and will appear in court again for mediation. The details of the case were supported by two police statements, confirming the charges and actions taken by both parties.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson for South Gauteng, Phindi Mjonondwane, confirmed that the couple has been released on bail and will have further court proceedings.
