Joy 'Mama Joy' Chauke, South Africa's favourite sports mama, has sparked mixed reactions with her announcement of traveling to Côte d'Ivoire to support the national football team, Bafana Bafana, at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
While Mama Joy's previous trip to France for the Rugby World Cup, allegedly funded by taxpayers, didn't raise many concerns, some individuals are now questioning and expressing disapproval over her latest venture abroad. Mama Joy shared a video on X (formerly Twitter), capturing her departure from home with a suitcase in hand.
In her video caption, Mama Joy wrote, "On my way to AFCON. Bafana Bafana, I am coming," accompanying the message with two airplane pictures of herself.

Social media users took to the comment section to wish Mama Joy safe travels while others questioned who was funding the trip:
@TakalaniMokhawa said: Travel safe Mama joy, and all the best to our boys
Enjoy Mama Joy! Your presence will definitely motivate the boys.

Not to be a party pooper but can we not give other people a chance?

If it's your money, enjoy.
If it's tax payers money, then start being considered to the young generation. Let someone else have that experience, how about a 19 year old who dreams of captaining Banyana 1 day.
